MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis native Leslie Jones has been making people laugh for years, most recently on NBC's Saturday Night Live. However, her comic presence has been known by Memphians for years.
"Leslie Jones has been funny for a long time. That's how it is with a lot of comics. A lot of people think it's overnight success but she's been grinding for a long time," said comedian and owner of Chuckles Comedy House, Prescott.
Prescott says seeing someone rise to the top is always fun to watch. Just about six months ago, he tried to book Jones here in Memphis.
"She was just telling me she wasn't taking any shows because she was doing the Saturday night thing. And now this happens so we might never see her," Prescott noted.
But he says that's okay because Jones is making history. She is the second African American woman to be a cast member of SNL and now she's been cast in the first ever Ghostbusters all-female ensemble.
Prescott added, "It's good to see, especially someone from Memphis on that main stage."
He hopes her story continues to inspire comedians in the area to dream big...
"You've got a lot of funny comics that haven't been discovered and for her to get on stage and shine like that."
