SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC) - It's been quite the season for retailer announcements around the Mid-South. New businesses moving in means jobs, deals, and more options for you.
Bass Pro, Ikea, H&M, Trader Joe's and Nordstrom Rack all announced future plans to open in the area. And one more big name can be added to the list.
In January, word came down that Tanger Outlets is coming to Southaven, Mississippi, bringing with it 70 upscale retailers.
WMC Action News 5's Kendall Kirkham visited the Tanger Outlets in Sevierville, Tennessee to get the scoop on what to expect.
"If you're an outlet shopper, this is by far one of the better ones," said Claudia Ragsdale, who drove five hours from North Carolina to shop.
"We like for it to be more of an attraction," said Angela Harness, general manager of Tanger Outlets in Sevierville, adding that the decision to build a mall in Southaven was strategic. "When we go into a market, they know what the shopper wants and they work with tenants and brands to bring exactly what shoppers want in each market."
According to our research on TangerOutlet.com, Banana Republic Factory Store, Coach, Gymboree, J.Crew, Justice, Ann Taylor Loft, Kitchen Collection, G.H. Bass & Co. and Nike are likely shoo-in stores for Southaven. We found those stores at 75 percent of Tanger Outlets' 44 current locations.
Developers are being tight-lipped when it comes to officially announcing the full-retail roster, but the news is expected to come soon.
As far as savings are concerned, Harness said you can get up to 80 percent off merchandise at some stores, but the key is planning ahead.
"Go to the website, select the center you want to go to, and it will show you different sales that our different brands are having," Harness said.
Download the Tanger Outlets mobile app to help you maneuver through the mall and get access to additional discounts, as well.
"A lot of times in outlets, they're on sale, plus they're on sale an additional markdown, and that's the real advantage," Ragsdale said.
If you're a member of the military, AARP or AAA, you are eligible to receive a coupon book free, which can only be found in the Shopper Services Center.
There, you can also find time-sensitive coupons you can't find in the stores themselves.
Another way to save even more is by joining the Tanger Club, where you can get exclusive perks like free coupon books, seasonal offers, shopping swag, email alerts for VIP shopping invitations and birthday rewards.
Other perks of joining the Tanger Club include getting rewards at certain spend levels, including gifts cards. The cost to join is a one-time fee of $10.
Once you've scored the added discounts, experts suggest looking for irregular or out-of-season items that came from mainstream stores. Those are the best deals to be had.
Tanger Outlets re-stocks its stores nightly, so get there right after the stores open for the biggest selection.
The best advice we received may have come from Carl Logan, a dad and grandfather from Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
"Make sure you wear some good shoes, because it's a lot of walking," Logan said.
Additional stores found in most Tanger Outlet locations include the following:
