MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A woman dealing with tragedy reached out to WMC Action News 5 from her hospital bed to share her story.

Derika Hull is improving, but says she's still in pain and has a broken rib and a broken thigh bone from the crash that happened last week at Getwell Road and Comanche Road.

Hull said she's barely able to walk; it may be months before she fully recovers. But the biggest loss from that crash is the loss of her unborn child and her boyfriend's mother.

"I couldn't do anything but cry when they said I lost my child," Hull said. "Now that I lost it, I'm not able to do anything. Go shopping have a baby shower or anything."

The child would have been her first, and it would've made Donna Dickson a grandmother. Now, there's no child and Dickson is not around to mourn with her family.

Police say David Diaz was driving drunk when he ran a red light and crashed into the car Hull and her family were riding in. Diaz then ran from the scene, but police found him at a nearby apartment complex.

"I don't deserve this," Hull said. "Why are you driving drunk late at night, knowing that you can hurt someone?"

Hull's emotional pain will continue forever, and her physical pain could last months. She has a broken elbow, hip, and knee. She's hooked up to machines, barely able to walk, and still has scars from four surgeries she underwent after the crash.

Now, as Hull sits in pain thinking about that tragic day, her mother, who's been by her side, worries how the family will bounce back from this.

"I don't know what the hospital bill going to cost us--the insurance," Linda Hull, Derika's mother said.

Derika Hull says she knows her life will never be the same, but she wants to make sure the man responsible pays for what he has done.

"To be honest, he doesn't deserve to get out at all, because he killed two people," Hull said.
