A Memphis firefighter no longer has a job with the department.

Joseph Hartsfield was relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of his administrative hearing, after a 17-year-old girl told police he fondled her in an ambulance.

Hartsfield also serves as an ambulance paramedic. It is in that role that the teen says he took advantage of her. She says he asked her sexually explicit questions and moved his hand under her breast as the ambulance took her to St. Francis Hospital.

After making his $5,000 bail, Hartsfield appeared briefly in Criminal Court Tuesday morning.

He told the judge he did not have an attorney.

She told him he had the right to an attorney before his preliminary hearing February 17th, and Hartsfield left the courtroom.

He had no words for the media after his court appearance. He faces two sexual battery charges.
