MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Seventeen people who were wanted in Shelby County are now off of the streets as a result of the Mid-South Fugitive Takedown.
WMC Action News 5 and Shelby County Sheriff's Office teamed up to spread the word about people who were wanted in the county on a variety of warrants. Your phone calls and tips led deputies to arrest 17 people.
Vaderrick Payne is one of the people taken into custody on Monday. He is charged with aggravated assault for a fight that took place involving his ex-girlfriend.
Neighbors say they are grateful to hear deputies are working to get criminals off of the streets.
"I think it's long overdue and this neighborhood in particular has been trying really hard to make it a livable place," said a woman who lives in an area known for violence. She asked to remain anonymous. "You know, we hear a lot of gunfire and you just don't go out at night. You just don't."
And with the help of law enforcement, neighbors say they can sleep sounder at night.
"I'm grateful for the criminal takedown," she added.
