Off-duty MPD officer injured chasing shoplifting suspect

COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC) - An off-duty Memphis police officer was injured after trying to capture a shoplifting suspect at a Collierville Kroger on Tuesday night.

According to the Collierville Police Department, around 6:30 p.m., employees at the Kroger located at Winchester and Houston Levee Roads were holding a shoplifting suspect that was trying to get away.

An MPD officer, who Collierville police say lives in the area, was shopping in the store and intervened. He chased the suspect out the door, where a car was waiting outside.

The car took off with the suspect, and the officer injured his knee. According to Collierville police, it's unclear whether the officer was dragged by the car or if he fell. Collierville police say he was not seriously injured.

Collierville and Memphis police are communicating about the incident and are still searching for the suspect.
