MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - University of Memphis law students made a huge social media push to get Today Show anchor Savannah Guthrie to the Bluff City and although she declined, she sent the students a video.
Memphis law students saturated social media with pictures showcasing the city with messages for Guthrie telling her why she should visit and be their commencement speaker. They even started a hashtag, #Guthrie4Graduation.
In her video message to the students, Guthrie said she is flattered, but can't make it. She said she received all the Twitter pictures and posts and loved the care package for her new daughter.
"I even got this t-shirt I'm really not so small ... oh its for Vale, right, for the baby! Maybe she'll go to Memphis law one day," Guthrie told the students.
Guthrie ended her video by encouraging students to push forward saying that the light at the end of the tunnel is near. Students and the community already shared Guthrie's message and as of 4:30 a.m. Wednesday it has more than 2,500 views on Facebook.
The University of Memphis law school graduation is May 9 at the Cannon Center.
Congratulations to the students on their hard work!
