Memphis-area prospect switches commitment on National Signing Day

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis University School offensive lineman Drew Richmond made a big switch, Wednesday, on signing day. The 6-foot-5, 323 pound offensive tackle signed with the University of Tennessee after decommitting from Ole Miss earlier this week.

Richmond is ranked a four-star recruit by ESPN and 247Sports, and a five-star recruit by Rivals. Richmond is a consensus top 75 player in the country.

Back in November, Richmond announced he'll be attending Ole Miss, citing his desire to play alongside current Rebels lineman Laremy Tunsil. Part of the reason he changed his mind, according to Richmond, was his special relationship with Tennessee head coach Butch Jones and the feeling that the Volunteers are a team on the rise.

Richmond complimented Ole Miss and the Rebels football program, but thought the Vols were a better fit both academically and on the gridiron.
