MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Tennessee Department of Transportation trucks are out treating roads, bridges, and overpasses in preparation for winter weather Wednesday night.

WMC Action News 5 meteorologists do not expect a large snow or ice event, but TDOT crews are out making sure every driver will have a safe morning commute.

Wednesday afternoon trucks equipped with salt and water treated known trouble spots. Wednesday night, trucks filled with just salt will go back over some of the worst areas.

TDOT officials say they aren't taking any chances, and you should not either.

"Slow down," Steve Lemon, an assistant superintendent for TDOT, said. "Be aware of the bridges especially. They are going to freeze first. The overpasses, flyovers, and any bridge that has water under it will freeze very quickly."

TDOT drivers are planning to start their routes by 10 Wednesday night. They will keep working through the night to make sure the roads stay as safe as possible.
