Winter weather threat and illness to close Mid-South school districts

HARDEMAN COUNTY, TN (WMC) - Hardeman County and McNairy County Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Hardeman County Assistant Superintendent Bobby Doyle tells WMC Action News 5 the district has two reasons for closing schools: the threat of winter weather and an increased number of students missing class for illnesses like the flu.

WMC Action News 5 meteorologists predicted a chance of snow for Wednesday night and Thursday morning, but that snow is not expected to cause any serious problems in the Mid-South.

Likewise, a McNairy County representative confirmed the district would be closed for the same two reasons. The representative said several students had already missed class this week because of the flu or strep.

"My son was just sick a couple of days ago with the stomach bug," said parent Alisha Doyle. "It's going around really bad."

McNairy County Schools say they plan on using the day off to disinfect school campuses and hopefully give students a chance to get better.
