Weekend warm up and drought update

Weekend plans?

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - You may be able to shed the jacket. Temperatures will push into the 60s this weekend thanks to a nice southerly wind and a good supply of sunshine. Most of the forecast models including the NAM model push us above 60 degrees by Saturday afternoon. Keep in mind, our average is 52 degrees for early February. Highs could reach as high as 64 degrees by Sunday in spots, so it we will be 10 degrees above average in most areas this weekend with overnight lows in the upper 30s Saturday morning and only in the upper 40s Sunday morning. The good news is that our heating units will get a break and that's always good in mid winter.

Dry conditions increase

Memphis is 2.73 inches below average in rainfall since January 1. The areas seeing the highest drought conditions exist across East Arkansas with severe drought being reported in Crittenden, St. Francis and Cross counties, extending down into DeSoto County, Mississippi. Moderate drought conditions exist across most of northeast Arkansas, most of West Tennessee and extreme northwest Arkansas. Most of Mississippi is in good shape for now. Unfortunately, our rain chances are looking pretty slim over the next seven to 10 days, so drought conditions may slowly increase over the next few weeks. I'm sure farmers and planters are paying close attention.

Have a great weekend!
