MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Concerned parents plan to make their voices heard Monday at a consolidation meeting at South Side Middle School aimed at promoting community engagement.
A group of concerned parents are protesting the board's approved recommendation to consolidate Lincoln Elementary and South Side Middle for the 2015-16 school year.
Under the proposal, Lincoln Elementary students would be rezoned to A.B. Hill Elementary, a school proposed to join the District's iZone in the fall. South Side Middle students would be rezoned to Riverview K-8, a school currently in the District's iZone.
The term iZone stands for Innovation Zone and refers to the group of 17 district-run, historically low-performing Shelby County schools awarded federal funding for strategic turnaround efforts.
Parent's against this zoning protested outside the school on Friday saying that school officials should work harder to fix the school's problems rather than consolidate.

The school board says it's important to understand that there have been no final decisions made.
