A trial date has been set for Lawrence Reed, the man accused of killing then-Clarksdale mayoral candidate Marco McMillian in 2013.

Reed was driving McMillian's car when it crashed into another car last year. He was airlifted to the hospital, and soon after, investigators received information that McMillian may have been in danger.

McMillian's body was later found in a field in Coahoma County. The openly-gay candidate had been beaten and burned.

Reed's trial will begin March 9, according to District Attorney Brenda Mitchell.
