MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Two young Memphis men will spend most of their lives behind bars after they were convicted of killing two dogs and shooting at a security guard.
Matthew Tyler, Deshun Hampton, and Devonta Hampton videotaped two of their crimes with their own cameras.
"When they see us in the club, security try to shoot us, so here we go," one of the teens said in the cell phone video.
Matthew Tyler and Deshun Hampton, both 18, took turns shooting at a security guard. On the video, they fire one shot, then a spree of more directly at the man.
Monday, 20-year-old Devonta Hampton and Matthew Tyler were sentenced for a string of nearly 30 felonies committed in May 2012 near the Cherry Crest Apartments.
"Deshun and Mr. Tyler are the ones who shot at the security guard," said Tom Henderson, assistant to the District Attorney General. "They not only shot and tried to kill him, they had the third person video it on their cell phone."
If they serve their full sentence, Devonta won't get out of jail until he's 52. Matthew Tyler would be 84 when he's released.
Deshun Hampton will be sentenced Tuesday.
The prosecution says this is justice well served.
Henderson says, "Every night, they were going through the neighborhood and basically terrorizing the neighborhood, the apartment complex."
