MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Christian Brothers University students are reacting Thursday night after campus police had to shoot a man who pulled a gun on police.

A police officer fired shots at an armed driver near Christian Brothers University's campus early Thursday morning. Two campus officers now on leave with pay following the incident.

Around 4 a.m., Memphis Police Department officers were called to the intersection of Avery Avenue and Oakdale Street, where the officer said he tried to stop a suspicious vehicle on the university's property.

The officer told police the driver of a black Mercedes refused to stop, was argumentative, then drove away. According to a CBU spokeswoman, the driver came back a short time later with a gun and pointed it at the officer.

The officer drew his gun and shot at the car several times as the driver sped away.

Some students say the officers made the right decision and their main priority is making sure the campus is safety.

Vuth Tram noted, "If it's protecting me, I'll go for it for sure."

MPD found the suspect's car in the 3400 block of Carnes Avenue around 8:15 a.m. and officers located the person believed to be the driver. The suspect had minor injuries and was taken to Regional Medical Center in non-critical condition.

University officials say the person who was driving the Mercedes is not a CBU student and there is no threat to the campus.

Prosecutors have not filed charges in the case.
