MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Gus's Fried Chicken will take the franchise nationwide.
From the spicy chicken to the smooth baked beans, Gus's has been a beloved Memphis food destination for decades.
"It's probably one of the best chickens I've ever had," Bud Herrera said while visiting Memphis from Washington.
Gus's started in the mid-50s, and it has grown from Mason, Tennessee to downtown Memphis and beyond.
Television crews from ESPN all the way to the Food Network have featured Gus's and praised its unique taste.
Wednesday on Facebook, Gus's announced it would go national with eight more locations to open in 2015.
"I think everyone else just wants to get a chance at what we get to experience here in Memphis," Samuel Braswell said.
Atlanta, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Knoxville, and Ft. Worth, Texas will all have a Gus's by the end of the year.
More openings are expected to be announced soon. Which means the unique taste of West Tennessee fried chicken will soon hit the rest of the nation.
