MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - WMC Action News 5's Kendall Kirkham and Joe Birch will put on their dancing shoes to raise money for a very special group of people.
The "Dancing For Our Stars" fundraiser will benefit The Baddour Center, which is a full residential, vocational, and recreational campus that sits on 120 acres and caters to adults with intellectual disabilities.
"We have the capacity to serve 170 people," said The Baddour Center's executive director, Parke Pepper. "Currently we serve about 150 folks from half the states in the United States."
On any given day, you can find a group singing karaoke, exercising, and working.
"The word that describes it best is community. We provide a full life for the people that (sic) live here," said Pepper. "Essentially learn life skills so they can continue to blossom here at Baddour or take those and go on to next step of life."
The Baddour Center accepts no federal funding of any type, relying solely on family-paid tuition, the center's work programs, and fundraising, like the "Dancing For Our Stars" event, which will be held on Feb. 26.
