MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Police are searching for a truck driver who hit a man with his tractor-trailer and never stopped to check on him.
A video uploaded to Facebook shows a crowd gathered around a man lying along the curb in front of the Marathon Gas Station in South Memphis on Thursday.
Witnesses say he was walking on the west side of the street when he was hit by the truck.
A sigh of relief emanated through the crowd when someone checked the man and realized that he was still alive, but because he was sprawled out and appeared unconscious, the crowd decided not to move the man for fear that it would make his injuries worse.
Police say the back tire of the tractor-trailer hit the man near the intersection of South Parkway and Florida Street.
About a mile and a half down the same street and within the same hour, a Durham School Services bus crashed into an SUV. Police say the SUV ran a red light. Its driver is now in the hospital.
No children were on board the bus.
Back at the hit and run location, witnesses could not believe what they saw.
"And his legs and everything just went up in the air when he ran over him," recalled one witness in the video. "I was looking at him."
At last check, the man is in stable condition in the hospital.
