The Ridgeway girls basketball team is ranked fourth in the country by USA Today, and are still undefeated after a 62-50 win over Whitehaven.
Eryn Foster led the Roadrunners with 16. With the win, Ridgeway advances to the Division 1, Class AAA, Region 8 semifinals against White Station.
On the boys side, the Hamilton Wildcats dominated Southwind behind the great performances of Memphis signees KJ Lawson (17 points, 7 rebounds) and Dedric Lawson (27 points, 20 rebounds) 86-69. Hamilton plays Houston in the semifinals.
On the other side of that Region 8 bracket, the upstart young East High team survived 91-87 over Ridgeway. East is led by freshman TJ Moss, who averages nearly 13 points per game. East will play Overton in the other semifinal. East is wearing uniforms honoring former coach Desmond Merriweather, who died earlier this month of cancer. Merriweather's son, Nick, plays point guard for the Mustangs.
In the private school arena, Christian Brothers beat Montgomery Bell Academy 63-47, to advance to State. CBHS is now 28-0 on the season.
