MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Mail carriers are delivering your letters, packages and parcels, in the rain, sleet, or sunshine. It can be thankless work, but those like Stephanie Jones are devoted.

"It's a great job, but it requires a lot of dedication and commitment," she said.

For the past 17 years, Jones developed a bond with her customers through her work for the U.S. Postal Service.

"I get to meet very interesting people," she explained."Some people are more cooperative than others."

But on many days, it's the weather that can be uncooperative.

In addition to ice and snow, the Mid-South experienced record-breaking low temperatures overnight Friday.

Jones layered up to stay warm and wore special cleats to keep her balance.

"We're not really cold because when you walk, you build up body heat and with the layers, it's added protection," she said.

While most people tend to get in a hurry when they are working outside in the elements, Jones said she likes to take it slow in the snow.

"Day to day, I try to be consistent and proficient," she said. "I don't want to rush too much and maybe misdeliver."

Trekking through treacherous turf, up and down dangerous steps, Jones keeps a smile knowing she is delivering happiness in some of her packages.

"They get so excited when they see the mail carrier coming to deliver the mail, so it's a pleasure," she said.

And to be pleasant even when braving winter weather, Jones says it takes passion.

"It's not peaches and cream, but if you're dedicated and you enjoy what you do then it makes it a little bit easier," she said.
