MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

There's ice everywhere at the Memphis Zoo and although they've closed their doors for a second day in a row, teams inside are hard at work.

Crews at the zoo are shifting many animals inside barns and tropical places to make sure they're protected from the fridge temps.

"There aren't a lot of species that can go out in these temperatures," said Curator of Large Mammals, Courtney Janney. "Or we have to consider the dangers of slipping on ice and animals getting injured."

While staff members are hard at work, for some animals, it was just another day of fun.

The zoo cares for 3,500 animals; a total of 500 species. It's a job they say never ends.

Janney added, "Everybody knows when they join any sort of organization that's helping animals that it's a 365 day year operation."
