MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The investigation into alleged sexual abuse claims at Youth Villages is expanding. Friday night, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed they are looking into additional complaints.

The TBI announced the arrest of a former Youth Villages counselor on Monday, and investigators say that arrest led to additional tips.

Deniro Smith, 25, is charged with one count of statutory rape by an authority figure, one count of statutory rape and one count of solicitation of a minor.

Smith is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a juvenile in his care at Youth Villages, both at the Bartlett campus and at Smith's home.

TBI initially got involved in this case at the request of the Shelby County District Attorney.

A TBI spokesperson released a statement Friday night saying in part, "As a result of the arrest earlier this week, our office has been contacted about other possible incidents that may have occurred at that facility. As we do with any investigation of this kind, we will continue to look into these calls or inquiries we receive."

Earlier in the week, Youth Villages issued a statement reiterating the organization's commitment to the children it serves, adding that all employees undergo extensive background checks and that Youth Villages is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
