MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A 20-year-old Memphis man was killed in a climbing accident in Chattanooga on Thursday.

Just days later, family and friends were left searching for answers and dealing with the devastating loss of Tyler Pelts.

Friends say the Christian Brothers High School graduate was like a lot of young men his age who like to climb and enjoy the challenge.

"Well it's just challenging. You're like, when you get the challenge the adrenaline rushing you, just look down and see and you get all the adrenaline of 'oh I can climb higher'. It's really fun," said Chris Madlinger.

Madlinger lives across the street from Pelts' Cordova home and was shocked to hear the 20 year old had died in a tragic climbing accident.

"I'm devastated....it doesn't feel like it's real. It's like, you know, I guess it hasn't sank in yet," added Madlinger.

Police say Pelts was found at the bottom of a 100-foot cliff on Signal Mountain. It took rescuers seven hours to find his body after his family reported him missing Thursday night. Officials were able to trace his cell phone to Pelts' location.

It has been a tough couple of weeks on the Christian Brothers' family. In addition to Tyler's death, two other CBHS students died in a car accident back in February.
