Get set to get wet this week

© Rainfall Estimates For The Next Five Days © Rainfall Estimates For The Next Five Days

RAIN ROUND ONE EARLY WEEK: A few showers are possible early Monday with heavier rain moving in Monday evening through the day on Tuesday.  Some areas could pick up one to two inches of rain during this time but the highest amounts will be across north Mississippi into west Tennessee.

ROUND TWO LATE WEEK: Rain chances go up again Thursday and Friday with showers and storms likely as an area of low pressure tracks northeast through Arkansas. While temperatures will be in the 60s, the focus will be on bands of heavy rain.  Rainfall totals from Monday to Friday could exceed four inches in areas of northeast Mississippi and east of the Mississippi River into west Tennessee. Some minor flooding is possible by the end of the week, especially near rivers, streams and flood-prone areas. Severe weather is not expected at this time, but any storms that do develop Thursday into Thursday night could produce localized flooding.

Where Will The Heaviest Rain Fall? The map from the Hydrological Prediction Center has bulls eyeye of 5 inch rainfall totals (red areas) for the next five days over northeast Mississippi and northwest Alabama. It shows up to two inches or more from Memphis to Dyersburg and up to 1 1/2 inches in eastern Arkansas. These are just estimates, but it tells me that rainfall totals will increase from west to east through the week. These cities and towns have the greatest chance at seeing heavy rain and the highest rainfall totals: Corinth, Oxford, Selmer, Savannah, Bolivar and maybe even Somerville.
