MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A Memphis man is behind bars Sunday night after reportedly breaking into a High Point Terrace home on March 6.

James Wilkerson was heading to work Friday morning when a loud noise caught his attention.

“I was getting ready for work and I heard a loud bang. It sounded like something had fallen against my house,” he said.

When he approached his window, he spotted something else.

“I saw two little eyes kind of poke around a bush, and I sat and watched this guy for two to three minutes,” said Wilkerson.

As soon as the man began peaking inside his neighbor's window, Wilkerson called police.

“As soon as I called 911 is when he kicked in her back glass,” said Wilkerson.

Police and a K-9 unit were sent to the home. After repeated attempts to get the suspect to come out, the K-9 went in and found suspect John Asusa inside a closet. He suffered a minor bite from the dog.

Neighbors say they are always mindful of suspicious activity, but they aren't surprised the incident happened.

“I can believe it. I see it all the time. At least once every two weeks you'll see the police zipping around here and chasing after someone,” said Wilkerson.

Wilkerson is glad the attempted burglary happened on day when he was home to catch it.

“I've lived here for almost eight years. I love the location, love the neighborhood. It's a great family neighborhood, but I'm ready to see the crime get out,” said Wilkerson.

Asua is charged with resisting arrest, aggravated burglary and theft of property.
