A video posted on Facebook of two girls fighting outside of Southwest Prep Academy is getting attention from Shelby County parents. Some parents are asking why school officials did not do more to break up the brawl.

The video was posted on March 3 on Facebook and took place outside of Southwest Prep Academy. In the video, two girls can be seen punching each other on the ground, pulling hair, and attacking each other numerous times.

In the background of the video, there are two school resource officers.

"No matter what policy says, they handle it individually," says parent Michelle Ramos. Ramos has five kids in Shelby County Schools and says school staff does not always follow a standard protocol when students get into altercations.

In the video, what looks like a school staff member is trying to break the fight up.

"They break it up, and if they can't break it up, they pepper spray it," says student Estebien Junior.

Junior says usually officers aggressively break up fights or whip out their pepper spray, but he says in this fight officers did not pepper spray and were not able to break it up.

"A lot of their officers are just tired of the students and will just get rid of them," says Ramos.

Ramos says she thinks some officers let students fight so they can get kicked out.

WMC Action News 5 shared the video with Shelby County School officials. A school spokesperson says the video is being reviewed and they are waiting for more information on the video.
