Southaven residents are concerned about an officer without certification being allowed to serve on the police force.

Patrolman Dwight Brittian doesn't have the proper certifications to work as an officer. It has become a big legal and credibility problem for the city.

Southaven Police Chief Tom Long is calling Brittian's lack of certification a "personnel problem."

According to Southaven Municipal Court Clerk, their office began dismissing tickets written by Brittian because of his lack of certification which could allow many law breakers off the hook.

The court clerk does not know exactly how many tickets will be dismissed, but it could be hundreds.

According to Mayor Darren Musselwhite, "Our Police Department responded proactively to remedy the situation when realizing that a certification issue existed resulting in a dismissal of certain violations."

"They need to pay their tickets," said a Southaven resident. "You know if they were in violation, it's a shame that those people would not be punished."
