A trio of men is behind bars after police say they altered more than 100 debit and gift cards to make purchases.

"I saw the cops out here yesterday and I was like wow what happened up there," said Bridgitt Brown. "I just hope they don't get hurt themselves taking away from people who are working hard for their money."

Police say a man walked inside a gas station near Winchester and Millbranch roads Wednesday, trying to buy more than $100 worth of merchandise using a fake credit card. The clerk told says when he realized the debit card was copied, he locked the store doors, trapping the man inside, and then called police.

When police arrived at the gas station, they found another debit card in the suspect's wallet. They also found more than 100 debit cards and gift cards in the car he was riding in exceeding $1,000.

Police found two other men sitting in the car, as well as computer equipment possibly used to copy debit cards. All three are now facing identity theft charges.

Brown can relate — she says someone has stole her identity before.

"I keep my stuff in my pocket. I don't really carry a purse. I keep my credit card, just one, and I keep it in my pocket," Brown added.

Memphis police say they've arrested seven people for fraudulent use of a credit/debit card in 2015.
