MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A day after Memphis police killed a man who shot at them, on Thursday officers were able to subdue another potential threat before things got out of hand.

Police were called to the 600 block of Tate Avenue regarding a military veteran armed with a shotgun, possibly firing shots.

"I know I pulled up and there was a house full of police," said neighbor Jessica Mull.

Mull suspected the man, in his 60s, may have finally had enough of troublesome children.

"They always messing with him, they always busting his windows out, they always bringing harm to him," said Mull.

According to police, the man had been previously diagnosed with mental illness. Wednesday morning, police shot and killed a man with mental illness after they say he fired at them during a standoff.

Neighbors say the man on Tate Avenue would have never taken the situation that far.

"He didn't give them no problem or nothing," said Cotillus Dotson. "He just gave up and did what he's supposed to do."

In the end, there were no reported injuries on Tate. Neighbors hope the man who caused the big scene gets the help he needs.

"I just hope he'll be okay, I really do," said Mull.

The man arrested Thursday was taken to the Memphis Mental Health Institute instead of jail. He has yet to be identified.
