MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Although it's Spring Break for the University of Memphis, students who remained on campus are on high alert after University of Memphis Police say a man exposed himself to a female student.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon inside a bathroom at the McWherter Library on campus. Police say the man followed the victim into a restroom and not only exposed himself, but also verbally harassed the victim.

"I hope she can find some peace and not be worried about this and not be scared all of the time," said Keeley Frost.

University Police issued a safety alert to faculty and staff Friday reminding them to program the police department's number in their phones, and that on-campus escorts are available from dusk until dawn.

It was a safety reminder for German exchange student Julie Merbach.

"Because normally the police are everywhere around campus so like normally I feel pretty safe -- even if it was dark, like if you had to walk from the library to one of the dorms," said Merbach.

The suspect is described as a man in his early 20s, about 5'8" to 5'9", slim build, dark complexion with short hair. He was last seen in the area of Southern Avenue and South Highland Street wearing a green sweatshirt and dark basketball shorts with a stripe on the side.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to contact university police at 901-678-HELP (4357), or at www.memphis.edu/police/confidential.php.
