MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Police were called out to the Windbranch Apartments on Millbranch Road after a report of four children who were left home alone Monday.

According to police, the children range in ages from four to 11 years old. Reportedly, the children were supposed to supervised by a family member, but police found them home alone.

"To just leave four young ones, that's ridiculous. I'm a mom," says Linda, a neighbor who does not approve of a parent leaving a child at home regardless of their age.

Though it might be frowned upon, leaving a child home alone may not be illegal.

According to the Tennessee juvenile and family courts, it's preferred no children under the age of 10 are left alone, but there is no legal age written in stone. The courts leave the decision to parents to make based on their own child's maturity.

But mother-of-four Terrikka Jordan says regardless of what's on the books, she won't be leaving her young children alone until they are closer to 18.

"Kids are too young to be staying at home by themselves regardless of what age they are," says Jordan.

Police did not file any charges in this case, but police say the Department of Child Services is involved.

The four children were released to family members, according to police.
