MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

On a beautiful, warm day, more than 100 people started running scared near Foote Homes Public housing complex.

“I just heard like 50 shots,” said one resident.

People couldn't believe what they were hearing.

Tranell Law said, “They let off 20 or 30 rounds. I'm talking less than a minute. I just saw people running from everywhere. It was bad.”

There were a lot of people outside as police blocked off the area. Officers had to call in reinforcements for crowd control.

Crime scene tape blocked off the area right across from Foote Homes. People stood on a porch with phones to their head.

No one seemed to know exactly what had happened.

David Fullerton was in his bedroom.

“I jumped up off the bed and called police immediately because it sounded like it was right under my bedroom window,” he recalled.

Fullerton said it sounded like the shooter was running.

“It was a person who was moving. He was moving around this side cause the gun started on this side.”

Police say one man was shot, which is amazing considering how many people were outside. He was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

According to police, no one is in custody.
