MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Big name supporters are already buzzing about Pyramid Vodka after Tuesday's ribbon cutting ceremony.

The new North Memphis distillery on Royal Avenue has only been in operation for a few months, but the city's first vodka distillery is doing very well.

"It's been doing extremely well," said Alexander Folk, co-founder of Pyramid Vodka. "Sales are a lot higher than we initially expected."

Alexander Folk and his brother, Winston, of the Folk's Folly restaurant family co-founded the distillery. The two sons of FedEx founder Fred Smith co-own the the business.

Pyramid Vodka is called a craft vodka because it's all handmade. Folk also says his distillery tries to incorporate local ingredients into their product.

"Our goal is really to create a business in Memphis highlighted with local ingredients we're so fortunate to have access to," Folk explained. "Memphis water, which is the best water in the world. We get our corn locally from the Mississippi River Delta."

The corn gives Pyramid Vodka its sweet, smooth finish.

The young distillery only has five employees, but it plans to hire a few more in the coming months.
