HORN LAKE, MS (WMC) -

Five-hundred jobs are coming to Horn Lake thanks to a new Walmart Supercenter.

Crews broke ground Wednesday at 4150 Goodman Road West.

The new Walmart will have everything from groceries and clothes to toys and electronics.

Mayor Allen Latimer wants the city to keep up with growth in neighboring Southaven and Olive Branch. He hopes other businesses will fill vacant spots for a chance to land near the retail giant.

"We've had a lot of interest in a lot of spaces once this project was announced," Mayor Latimer said.

But not everyone is excited about the development.

"The Walmart is going to be right there on my back door," Pam Farris said.

Farris and her horses are about to be in tight quarters. She's happy about the coming jobs but not everything else that comes with the Walmart Supercenter.

"The crime that's going to be right here on our back door. There's no other place for country living anymore."

But on the other side of Goodman Road, people are filled with excitement.

"Me and my wife can walk here now," Warren Lee said. "So it will be real nice for us."

Lee also says he's looking for a second job. He thinks Walmart might be just the place to give it him.

The stores manager plans to start accepting job applications beginning in November or December of 2015.
