Grizzlies think mindset will help bury opponents

It's no secret the Memphis Grizzlies have struggled to beat inferior teams lately. After starting the season winning 20 of 22 games against teams who are currently under .500, the Grizz are just 5-5 against such teams since the beginning of February.

Players have attributed the struggle to various things, but mostly, according to both guards Tony Allen and Courtney Lee -- it's all in their frame of mind. "It's a mindset. If we want to get to where we want to get to, we gotta be able to bury teams and not let them come back," said Lee.

The issue is, according to Lee, not only does the team not exactly know why they can't finish off their opponents, but it dates back to last season's playoffs.

"Last year in the playoffs against OKC, we'd be up big and then they'll come back in the game, so we gotta figure out what it is and nip it in the bud," said Lee.

While the Grizz have played substantially worse against non-contenders, their win rate against the better teams in the league has stayed similar. Memphis started 15-10 through January vs. teams above .500, and have kept a similar rate, winning 7 of 11 against winning teams over the past month and a half.

"We gotta have a better approach to the game," said Allen. "Everybody needs to be all-in."

The Grizzlies play next on the road Friday, against the Dallas Mavericks.
