SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) -

Shelby County Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Nichols released a statement Tuesday in reaction to a motion filed by defense attorneys in the Holly Bobo murder case.

Jason Autry and Zach Adams are charged with the 2011 kidnapping and first-degree murder of Holly Bobo in Decatur County.

Tuesday, attorneys for Jason Autry filed a motion to ask the court to drop charges against their client. They said the case had been delayed unnecessarily, and Jennifer Nichols should be held in contempt of court for not providing information requested over a year ago.

Wednesday, Nichols released the following statement:

“I've read the motion, disagree with many of the assertions and will file a written response in due course. Defense counsel failed to mention that one of the other defense attorneys in this case filed a Motion to Vacate my appointment the day after I was appointed. So, step one is to wait for the judge to rule on the Motion to Vacate next month and he either confirms me as the special prosecutor or removes me from the case. Step two, (depending on the judge's ruling in step one) will include answering defense motions, filing our own motions, engaging in the discovery process and requesting a trial date.”

Nichols was appointed as prosecutor in the case in January 2015.
