MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The Memphis Symphony Orchestra announced that it has received a $1 million for its education programs.

According to a press release, the Helen and Jabie Hardin Charitable Trust donated the gift for the 2015-16 and the 2016-17 seasons.

The money will go towards education and outreach programs, and will also provide additional income to the orchestra's musicians.

“This gift reflects an inflection point for the orchestra,” said Roland Valliere, MSO President and CEO, in a written statement. “It is an investment in the orchestra's future in a way that I hope inspires investments from others as well. It affirms the vital role of our musicians, without whom there would be no Memphis Symphony.”

According to the Chair of the MSO board, this gift is one of the largest the Symphony has ever received.
