MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Sunday services at Central Christian Church went on as they have for 91 years. But what's different from every other Sunday is a big patch over a hole in a stained glass window.

"I was shocked. I grew up in an age where people did not attack churches," said Tammy Taylor.

Shocked because sometime on Wednesday, a rock came crashing through the expensive glass that's been part of the sanctuary for decades.

"It would seem that people would understand that you don't disturb a place of worship," said Merlin Taylor, Jr.

For now, a temporary patch has been put over the hole while the church gets an estimate on what it will take to repair the damage.

Pastor Bill Russell says they looked around and also discovered vandals knocked a small hole in another stained glass window. But instead of showing anger, his Sunday sermon preached forgiveness.

"It's not our place to judge whoever did it," said Russell. "It is our place to forgive them and go on with life."

In fact, Russell says his congregation is praying for the person or people who vandalized the church.

"We praying for them and hope they see the error of their ways," added Russell.

The church wants to pass along a special invitation to the vandal responsible for the broken glass.

"If they want to come back to church for worship this morning, we'd love to have them."
