Coach David Sage has been with the Covington High School baseball team since 2008. He graduated from Covington High School and is well-known around the community, but after an audio recording surfaced of him in the locker room, he has been suspended.

The audio allegedly recorded by a player inside the locker room has some parents upset.

Tipton County Schools officials have not confirmed the audio as the reason for Sage's suspension. They could not be reached via phone Sunday for comment, though sources say the recording is what kicked off the investigation.

"I just think that he's just trying to motivate his players. There is not a coach in the county that hasn't done that," said former coach Jason Hughey.

It's not just Sage's choice language getting attention. In a second recording he can be heard belittling the players and their parents for not doing enough to raise money for the program.

Sage has been suspended before, but only for a couple of games. Supporters of the coach say the field would not be up to date without those fundraising dollars, something many take for granted.

Out of character or not, those who support the program hope, for the sake of the players, he is back soon.

"I believe it's out of his character, but the things I don't get is the boys are laughing at the beginning of the video," said Callie Goforth.

It's important to note that Sage will continue to teach, and he'll be working on logistics and scheduling for an upcoming tournament. However, he will not have any contact with the players until the investigation is complete.

"It's a sports thing. I understand that the cursing thing might have been extreme But these kids don't need to be babied," said Justin Folk.
