MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis police are investigating an alleged rape along Beale Street.

Some people say nothing good happens after midnight, and it was well after midnight Sunday morning when a 31-year-old woman claims she was raped.

"Oh my gosh," said 18 year-old Crystal Deleon of Maryland.

Deleon was visiting Beale Monday afternoon.

"It's sad to hear, it's really sad to hear," said Deleon.

The alleged victim told Memphis police she met a man inside Club 152.  He gave her a ride to the area of Beale and Front Streets less than three
blocks away. That's where the woman says she was sexually assaulted. She flagged down officers a short time later to report the crime.

"Well, one, I make sure that I go in a group," said Deleon.

Deleon and other women told WMC Action News 5 their first rule is to never be out and about alone.

"And if we are going somewhere, have a group chat or Groupme and tell each other where we're going," said Deleon.

"I think if you don't know anybody you shouldn't get in the car with them," said Lisa Jolly of Mississippi.  "So, you know, you're taking a chance
when you do that."

"I'd probably call a cab, an Uber, or taxi, or things like that," said Deleon.

Police could not release detailed information about the woman who reported the rape. They only said their investigation is ongoing.

The alleged victim said the suspect was 5'4" and 140 pounds.  He was last seen driving a black vehicle.  Call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH
with any information.
