"No scuttlebutt here" - Pastner responds to Arizona State rumors

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis Tigers basketball head coach told WMC Action News 5 Sports Director Jarvis Greer via text, that he's not leaving Memphis for the vacant Arizona State head coach position.

Pastner's direct response to a question about rumors of him heading west: "No scuttlebutt here, all good this way." Pastner's name was brought up in an ESPN report as a name Arizona State was considering in light of their firing of head coach Herb Sendek.

Pastner went to school at the University of Arizona, but otherwise, has no direct connection to Arizona State.

According to ESPN, shortly after Pastner's name came up, Arizona State offered the position to Duke assistant and former VCU and Oklahoma head coach Jeff Capel.

Pastner has a 148-58 (.718 win percentage) record at Memphis, leading the Tigers to four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances from 2011-2014. The Tigers are coming off what many feel was a disappointing year at 18-14, with Memphis missing a postseason tournament for the first time since 2000.
