MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The butcher at Casa Perez said when he saw three gunmen walk into the grocery, he hoped nothing bad would happen.

“We just hoping nobody got shot," said the butcher. "We were trying to give them whatever they wanted and get out of here.”

It happened March 2  around 8 p.m. at the grocery at Mendenhall Road and Summer Avenue.

Store surveillance video shows the whole thing. The butcher, who did not want to be identified, said two of the gunmen held a weapon on the cashier at the front of the store and started making demands.

“'If y'all don't hurry and give me the money, I'm going to kill you,'” the butcher recalled one of the gunman saying.

One of the gunmen went to the back of the store where two butchers worked.

“One of them came back here and pointed the gun at us and said, 'If y'all call somebody or do something, we'll kill you. Give us all your money.'"

The butchers didn't have any money, so the gunman took $6 out of the tip jar. The cashier also gave the robbers the money from the cash register and put it in a black bag as instructed.

The butcher said the robbers spoke mostly Spanish but they sounded to him like people whose parents were born in Mexico and they were born in the U.S.

He said the Spanish was mixed with English. The butcher said they looked like teenagers and seemed nervous.
