1 woman critically injured in Fox Meadows shooting

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A Memphis woman was injured after she says her boyfriend shot her early Thursday morning in the Fox Meadows neighborhood. He is in custody after calling and turning himself in to police.

Police were called to the 3400 block of Clarke Road just after 1 a.m. When officers arrived, they saw a 48-year-old woman lying on the bedroom floor with multiple gunshot wounds.

A witness, the woman's daughter, told police her mother came into her room, told her to call 911, and said her boyfriend, 44-year-old Edward Dean, had shot her.

The daughter searched for Dean, but he wasn't in the home. Everyone inside the house was asleep and didn't see the shooting.

The victim's mother told police she heard about three gunshots. The victim was taken to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

While offers were at the home on Clarke, the victim's boyfriend called police from a pay phone at the corner of S. Mendenhall and Knight Arnold roads wanting to turn himself in.

Officers found Dean in the parking lot.

While police were patting him down, Dean said, ""I called y'all. I'm taking responsibility for my actions. I ain't got nothing on me. I threw the gun after I shot that b----."

Dean was taken into custody. No charges have been filed.
