MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

NBC News reported the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, along with the EPA and a half-dozen other federal agencies, will investigate levels of formaldehyde in the Chinese-made laminate flooring of Lumber Liquidators.

The safety investigation comes three weeks after a 60 Minutes report revealed levels of the carcinogen in the discount retailer's laminate flooring may not meet American safety and health standards.

A spokesperson for the commission told NBC News it is taking consumers' complaints seriously, but it's too early to say whether the government will force a recall of the flooring.

The commission's investigation is focusing only on the Chinese-made laminate, but could expand if the agency finds cause to do so, according to NBC News.

Lumber Liquidators told NBC News it will cooperate with the investigation. It said it has already provided a "significant amount" of testing and safety information to the commission.

News of the investigation comes a week after WMC Action News 5 removed samples of the laminate flooring from the home of Cordova's Don Declue. We're conducting our own testing of his flooring after he claimed he had trouble getting cooperation from Lumber Liquidators' corporate office.

"She said it was perfectly safe," Declue said about a conversation he had with the retailer's customer service agent.

He said the agent did not offer him a free air testing quality kit, which the retailer has now made available here. "They didn't offer anything. They said it was a good, safe product."

We will report the results of our testing of Declue's flooring once we have them.
