A Memphis woman discovered her husband had been talking to another woman when she looked at his text messages.

When confronted, deputies say 28-year-old Antonius Brackett began to beat and choke his wife; even threatening her with a butcher knife.

Neighbor Randy Henson says he's sick of hearing about more and more cases of domestic violence.

"It's here, it's downtown, it seems to be everywhere right now," said Henson. "Take a breath, count to 10, whatever works for you or whatever works for you."

Brackett allegedly choked his wife after a fight in their bedroom. The victim told police that Brackett became irate after she was reading text messages on his phone.

According to an affidavit, the victim accused Brackett of cheating in their marriage and told her husband she wanted a divorce. Brackett then reportedly grabbed a butcher knife and told his wife he would kill her if she called police.

When she tried to get away, Brackett allegedly grabbed her by her feet and pulled her back towards him. Brackett was taken into custody after someone called police.

Deputies say the victim's parents have an active order of protection against Brackett because of previous threats.

The victim was not hurt, and is asking for her privacy. Brackett, is due in court Friday morning.
