There's a longer than normal wait time at many Memphis Division of Motor Vehicles centers, with more people than usual are packing many Mid-South locations in need of services. Now, officials are warning drivers to expect delays.

At the Whitehaven DMV, customers are frustrated.

"Last week of course during spring break it was very very overwhelming," said district manager Kendra White.

And it's not just an increase in new drivers — this season is known for a high volume of people getting their licenses reinstated.

White added, "During the months of the end of January to about the first of April, we have an influx of customers. People who have the extra money because they are getting refund checks."

White says they have seen about 400 reinstatement customers per day; about four times more than normal.

Which officials say increases wait time from about 22 minutes to an hour on a "good day."

DMVs started using crowd control and changing the schedule of staff to meet the demand. The East Shelby Drive location is now open Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. for reinstatement services only.

In order to speed up your wait time, officials recommend using the self-service kiosks, or go online to beat the long lines.
