A University of Mississippi personnel matter will be discussed during an emergency called meeting at the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning in Jackson, Mississippi.

The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, March 27.

The Associated Press reported that individuals with knowledge of negotiations say Mississippi's College Board offered a two-year contract extension to University of Mississippi Chancellor Dan Jones.

Under the proposal, Jones would make a public apology to trustees, according to The Associated Press.

The IHL board said that Jones was let go because of financial problems with UMMC -- issues they say were occurring for many years without improvement.

Dan Jones has had a groundswell of support following last Friday's announcement that his contract would not be renewed.

On Wednesday, a crowd of 2,500 gathered in front of the Ole Miss' Lyceum chanting phrases like, "Dr. Dan, he's our man. We won't let this decision stand."

Jones served as Chancellor for six years. He had just returned to the campus last week after a lengthy battle with lymphoma.
