Chris Jones learned he will serve two years for the charge of abuse of a corpse. This sentencing came after he was found guilty of first-degree murder, which came with an automatic life sentence.

Judge Bobby Carter handed down a two year sentence for the corpse abuse charge. Both sentences will be served concurrently.

Dressed in a red jumpsuit, Jones sat quietly in the courtroom with his attorneys. The red jumpsuit indicates that he is being held in solitary confinement.

Jones killed his wife, Heather Palumbo-Jones, in April 2013, then burned her body in a wooded area near Fayette County.

Friends say March 31 would have been Heather's 35th birthday.

Jones' defense team motioned for transcripts and a new trial on April 24. That was an expected legal maneuver. A hearing is now set for next month.

Dateline NBC will profile the entire Chris Jones trial on Friday, April 3. You can see the special at 8 p.m. on WMC Action News 5.
