SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) -

A Lakeland man was indicted on two counts of reckless vehicular homicide.

Hunter Queen, 25, is charged with the 2013 hit-and-run deaths of two people on I-40, according to Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich.

In August 2013, 34-year-old Jessika Cavasos and 37-year-old Derrick Cross were standing next to their broken-down vehicle in the emergency lane on I-40 eastbound near Warford Street when a white pickup truck hit them at high speed.

According to Weirich's office, several other drivers witnessed the accident, but investigators couldn't find the white truck responsible.

A representative with Weirich's office says Queen was arrested almost a year later after a CrimeStoppers tip revived the investigation

Queen was a recruit at the Shelby County Sheriff's Department Training Academy when officers arrested him in July 2014.

Queen could face three to six years in prison for vehicular homicide and one to two years for leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
