SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) - Shelby County Schools approved the closing of two schools for the 2015-2016 school year Tuesday night following recommendations by Superintendent Dorsey Hopson.

According to SCS, the board agreed to consolidate Lincoln Elementary School into AB Hill Elementary School and Southside Middle School into Riverview K-8.  Both A.B. Hill and Riverview K-8 will become iZone schools under the new plan.

In addition, Northaven Elementary School, which is currently for grades PK-8, will be reconfigured as a PK-5 school.  Woodstock Middle will also change to a recommended grade 6-8 configuration.

SCS also says they approved Hopson's recommendation to rezone Airways Middle School into Sherwood Middle School.  This move will effectively close Airways Middle School as well.

Dozens of parents, students, and other residents attended the meeting to have their voices heard.

"What's going on you guys? This is organized chaos," pleaded parent Patience Maxwell. "You guys are moving kids from school to school to school. Remember 'Where's Waldo?'  Where's our kids?"

Hopson explained that under-enrollment and declining birth rates in many neighborhoods will continue to be an issue for the Shelby County School District.
